His presence changed the history, the current narrative, and our expectations. A bit too reverential? Perhaps, but:

But Obama sidestepped a financial disaster, joined with Hillary, and maintained promise if not hope.
The way I see it, Obama has committed two mistakes that, fairly or not, may well torpedo his presidency:
ReplyDelete1. He has failed to manage expectations (Granted, we're long past the point when we could get away with expecting campaign rhetoric to become reality, but people expected something.).
2. Instead of working for that something, he has continually undermined himself by attempting to bring folks like TH to the table, which has about as much chance of succeeding as negotiations on Eastern Europe did after WWII with Molotov at the table.
Those may be enough to do him in; his opportunity may have already spun off into the void. If he had any blood to get up, it should have been up already. Instead, he continues to come across as so buttoned-down and detached that if he were to die and come back as a Vulcan, he'd have to loosen up to fit the part.
