Quote of the week:
"White people singing and playing the Blues? Huh? White people should concentrate on what they do best: giving people the Blues, not singing about it."
--George Carlin, 2007
Cruelly Ironic Blues of the Week:
Margaret Thatcher is suffering from dementia. Like Reagan was. Like my former hero Mr. McCain is. I call it karma. Remember, V for Vendetta was written and illustrated in the 80s as a slap in her face. This was the same lady who lobbied to keep Augusto Pinochet a chishy guest of the people of Britain. Yes, the Iron White Woman caused a lot of Blues in her time. Now you know how it feels.

My family lived in Thatcher's Britain. Whilst I understood the problem with the insane aspects of Labour's welfare state in the 70s, Thatcherism was not the antidote. My dad was a "wog," God knows the names my sister and I were called. That is just the social angle in an evil polygon
Carlin was getting pretty nasty before he died, but still right on it.
Then What you're expecting for G. W. Bush?
SoCal 82Tiger Says:
Professor you must be kidding...
If it wasn't for Thatcher’s hard nosed efforts at breaking down of some of the Labor Party and Unions stranglehold on Britain there would never have been the re-emergence of GLORIOUS BRITANNIA (Re: Vanity Fair) during the heady days of leadership from Prime minister Tony!!!
As to the Carlin comment… Isn’t it funny strange that one of America’s truly unique musical gifts to the world (JUST LIKE JAZZ & GOSPEL) was dying a slow death in the late 1960’s? It was resurrected only from the impassioned efforts of a few Anglo guitar gods from England (i.e. Clapton, Beck, & Page) and one amazingly flamboyant seminal talent from our own Pacific Northwest! Correct me if I am wrong Professor, BUT the very community that gave birth to the Blues has in a big way abandoned both performing and appreciating this unique American musical form? What is wrong with this picture???
@anonymous
you ARE Right about Blues and Rock&Roll but not about Free-Jazz in the 60s, from late 60s, yes the BEST Blues, Jazz and Rock&Roll musicians are NOT dark-skinned ones.
Reagan already had dementia back when he was SAG president, and Maggie's had it for who knows. As for Carlin, growing up poor and rural on a railroad track teaches you the blues, regardless of your pigmentation. I can do Insane Street Preacher, and I can do the blues.
anonymous,
Black music is always evolving, all creativity had been sucked up in the genre, musicians move on.
And just whom was blues the resurrected for? Black folks had lived with the music for at least seventy years when white folk discovered it. An expanded audience would have been a great benefit (profitable) to those musicians when it was race music. "Don't give me no flowers..."
Has Clapton had an original riff?
@hathor
You are WRONG!
Actually IT is all about genre!
Forget Clapton!
Ever heard of John Fahey or Americana??
Black music is always evolving?
In what space you are living?
What is black music today?
Name a single creative Afro-american musician out there?
Forget Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor, George Lewis, Wadada Leo Smith ... OK the OLD avant-gard forget them, the rest - Mainstream SUCKS - sounds ALL the same!!!
V should have killed her ass!
