Buy this Book!

Playwright, filmmaker-auteur and writer Jerry Rodriguez has, in down-home bamma parlance "put his foot in it." One of the best debut crime novels since my debut (just kidding). The Devil's Mambo is real noir. Not the retro fad we have today where clowns write about smelly alleys and darkened sidewalks. It's about characters & heart...and grit, guts. Nick Esperanza's already up there with Sam Spade, Coffin Ed & Gravedigger. Buy this damn thing. Now.

And check out the plays, short films, columns and body of work hightlighted on Jerry's site. Plus look for his boy, Charm City's own Michael Gonzales, online and newstands everywhere...even in Crawford, Texas, right Jenna?

Is "noir" like film-noir from the 1940s? I am assuming this is the opposite of my Rita Mae Brown stuff! My son-in-law likes this so I will recommend it.

I tried to pre-order on Amazon but there was a problem. Try Bn.com. It looks like the book won't be in bookstores until early May.

It's available on Amazon for order now. I didn't have a problem accessing but I want to wait for a signing because I think this dude is local (NY-NJ area).

I am intrigued by the "fake noir" moniker you slap on a lot of works now. Are you including your attacks on "ghetto fiction" in that or are you casting a wider net? I enjoy the crop of noir/hardboiled stuff out there, and I even check Thuglit.com every month for the newest stories. I don't agree that there's a deficiency in the genre. I think it's just being overlooked now because of the big name but lame "thrillers" (for people of all races) and in African American lit it is overshadowed by the ghetto fiction.

I will recommend this to my friend's bookclub. I think they are looking for anything that has nothing to do with Zane. I believe there are three Latinas in the group who would be interested in this as well.

Byron (am I allowed to call you that here?), sign up for an Amazon Associates account and learn to embed those links. Then you can collect a few bucks when you sell books.
