'Zo in The Darker Mask

NEWSFLASH: As you know, we had to find a replacement for Eric Jerome Dickey in the upcoming graphic/short story/comic collection The Darker Mask. Well, Lorenzo Carcaterra, better known for his stint penning Law & Order episodes and best known for his million seller Sleepers, which became the hit film starring Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt and yes even Jason Patric as Lorenzo, has stepped in and we're very excited. Thanks, 'Zo, for looking out. Click on his name for his website, his updates on new fiction and a foray into the world of computer games (the next frontier for we mystery/suspense/thriller authors now that we're getting chased out by Rachel Ray, etc.) And for look for The Darker Mask, edited by yours truly and Gary Phillips, chock full of original stories and art, in Spring '08. See the sidebar for our contributors.

I loved both the novel "Sleepers" and the film. But tell me this--was it all true?

Eric Dickey? Lawd, I may be speaking blasphemy as far as my wife and her girls go, but how would he contribute to your intended audience? "Soap opera" I believe was the epithet associated with this dude, leveled by others, of course? You are cagey in your denials, dude...

I agree with the last comment on EJD. You must have either been pressured by the publisher or brave to depend on that guy. Black readers are not a monolith and neither are black writers. Looking forward to seeing the collection and artwork.
