Oh to be Young & Passionate & Dumb as Nails Again!

Alicia, Alicia. Looks like your publicist and your mom are going to beat you ass when you come back from "vacation." If this is a stunt, the old "street cred" bromide is over and done, sweetheart. And you've been looking so sexy YET NON-ETHNIC lately, though your music's been a bit Top 40 cheezy. Then again, at least you haven't gone totally rancid commercial like Snoop. See parody in 4/10 post. From Blender magazine:

There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "`Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. `Gangsta rap' didn't exist."
Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.
Another of her theories: That the bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."
Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

First, yes she is young. Second, she is fine. Third, she's just parroting what some fool told her in her quest not to be the biracial sell-out. So cut the girl a break, bruh!!!

Gangsta rap unfortunately did fuel some bad vibes (though I like the stuff). Where she goes wrong is the notion that it's a ploy. I'm curious what Ice-T has to say about this.

As for her looks, I'm not getting the "non-ethnic" look. If anything, she appears hispanic (and that's ethnic by today's standards). I agree with your brother, she's young...so I'd cut her a break.

Come on. If you weren't married and she decided to hang with your old ass...would you tell her to shut up as she glams up to take you to the Grammy Awards?

I think not!

When does the Pope come to Washington?

I don't see anything wrong with what she said; she has a right to express her opinion. you should read the whole interview before judging. a section taken out of context doesn't tell the whole story. i don't think she is saying that stuff for "street cred". if you have read past interviews you would know that she never hid her political or social views.

After the Grammys, three albums, numerous TV appearances and interviews, Alicia doesn't know how to work the media?
She didn't know how to sidestep a possibly controversial topic.

I feel that her commentary was premeditated to give her buzz because
otherwise the interview would have been the same Alicia Keys interview: songwriter who is growing, she's coming in touch with her sensual side and didja hear...she's acting now.

Exciting for her; dull for us the readers.

I agree with Starr. This was calculated by people who know how to create buzz in immature but NOT stupid minds--so in that I partially disagree with the "dumb" part. If her mom, who is white and has been a BIG behind the scenes part of her career, was a little surprised, then this wasn't some explanation of long held believes. It was just, as you said, being a little young and pandering to the young.

It will blow over and hey she's got the hype she wanted. It's just that she needs to be as artful in her rhetoric as she is in her keyboard work if she's going to keep the mainstream notoriety and among fans who are over 25. But ya know--I feel that I am "outgrowing" her music. I am yikes! 37 next month and loosing interest. Maybe she should address that in her next interview?

You're right. She's "recanted" as of 4/16 and "clarified."

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.
