Where the Wild Things Are (No, not at one of the Tea -bagger Parties)

I've been waiting for this since I was little boy. My mother was a bit shaken by Sendak's prose, especially when Max says to his young mom: "Shut up, shut up or I'll eat you up." Allegory, folks.
I'm no fan of Spike Jonze (neither is Sofia Coppola--check her movie Lost in Translation). But I must say making James Gandolfini and Forrest Whittaker two of the endearing monsters is inspired casting...

My auntie refused to allow my cousins to read it because she said it was a book "for disrespectful white children" and because it was somehow "about the Devil." My mother, being the free spirit, bought it immediately! Of course this was years after it was originally published but the book still brings up such amazing positive and negative feelings. I have MY copy for my daughter, who will hopefully pass it on to HER children.
My son, age 14, doesn't read anymore no matter how much I beg or threaten. He was the original "Max."

You are so busted. I have it on good account that you were a well behaved child!!!

I can chime in on Christopher's behavior as a child too! His 96-year old grandmother says, and I quote "Christopher was a very well behaved little boy". It was not until he reached adulthood that he got into all sorts of devilish activities. I am also looking forward to "Wild Things".
