Friday funnies

The original Petey Greene's Washington on old Channel 20. History recreated by Don Cheadle in the new movie Talk to Me.

Enjoy this bit of DC nostalgia...

I have been living in and around Washington DC for the last 20 years, and that is one piece of Washingtonia I had no idea about. It seems as if Petey Green died just before I started college. Wow! That was something else. I loved the piece on watermelon. I had no idea what he was saying right around 3:56, but whatever it was, that watermelon must have been good. I get it though -- the man was trying to say just be yourself, whatever that is. I hear that Don Cheadle is wonderful in this new movie and I can't wait to see it.
My favorite line is == "put a twang on it"!

Channel 20? Lawd Captain 20! Ultraman and Speed Racer...the Munsters...the Little Rascals? The only thing taking me back more is my girlfriend pining away about Channel 11 WPIX in NY back in the day!

This dude had my father's rapt attention! The unofficial mayor of DC and I bet not a single Caucasian individual in town knew him.

I saw the movie and it seemed a little watered-down. I expected more out of Kasi Lemmons. It seemed that Don Cheadle was holding back, or maybe he was just the wrong actor to play Petey? I'm sure he was imposed on the production by the studio because he's someone both blacks and white know.
