Mother's Day: Dysfunctional WASP Family

On this Mother's Day, let's sigh in relief that we have such a cool mom, and grandmom, in the White House. Let's sigh in sadness that so many who aren't doing so well. Many by their own hands, or by the hand of a trifling or violent man, or a merciless economy.

And let's sigh a fake, crocodile sigh for the Buckleys. Dysfunctional, weird white parents. No, not like the methheads and gun nuts in the remaining Red States, ready to murder their own children's mothers and themselves over layoffs and Obama. This couple, Christopher Buckley's 'rents, remembered in Losing Mum and Pup, are the prototype of every stereotype we have of the white family of power. The uptight WASP. Not hereditary landed gentry/scions of robber barons, mind you, nor nouveau riche Real Housewives of Orange County or NY, or Bill Gates types.
