Bout time somebody made this a national campaign!
But did he really have to say "I gotta do this!" at the end?LOL

I applaud the brother for the campaign.

I will go back and see if he did say that at the end.

Excellent post!

I was a little skeptical at first. Did they say who orchestrated the "backlash?" If they didn't then it was likely because this is a local story.

I am not so sure. I think this can be used as a means of telling all of children they are stupid. I have heard ignorant white people speak (listen to Bush!) and when they sound silly they tell each other it's cute or they sound like a good ole boy. It's no crisis to them.

anonymous - Nobody is calling these kids stupid. It's just a different set of standards when you're black. Yeah, look at Bush, all those mispronounciations and "misspeaking", yet he still gets to run the country. It's real funny when you're already in power. Let Obama start dropping consonants and see what happens.

dc speaks - I applaud him too, just thought it was funny that he used slang at the end. We all talk that way sometimes, I just found it funny within this context.

I think African Americans have full circle on many of these issues, and we are seeing a rebirth of the old axiom of "bettering yourself." In the 60s the new creedo was that you didn't have to better yourself because there was nothing wrong with you and Black Pride demanded that stance. However, we let the pendulum swing too far in many circumstances, and now we are seeing a good balance.
