For the Love of Ray-J, For the Love of God...

I know you all have poo-pooed my calls for the President to use the "bully pulpit" to decry the turdification of our culture (JFK, HSTruman, TRoosevelt all did with stunning success in transforming the American psyche; and yeah, culture has more influence on politics than policy in America folks). Here's the latest offense: VH-1 (yeah the execs and producers need to go to Gitmo) and For the Love of Ray-J. And who is Ray-J? Brandy's talentless retard of a brother, famous only because he hid his braunsweiger in the bubble butt of Kim Khardashian in a sex tape. Nothing more need be said. This makes I Love New York look like Hill Street Blues and the seminal Flavor of Love like M*A*S*H (TV show AND film). And isn't this long-minted racism: promoting a young black man purely on his hypersexuality, misguided ego and big wang? Ooops...that's right it's 2009, not 1909.
Barack, one frown from you and producers (usually geeky white Jewish dudes) and network execs (ditto)--and we the viewers--will be shamed. Okay we'll line up for the usual slop from Tyler Perry or Kevin James (Paul Blart mall Cop), but it'll be for treat, not unabashedly, to the exclusion of anything remotely intelligent. We've had 8 years of exalting stupidity in the White House, and 8 years of self-indulgent bull before that. Save us, Barack, from Ray-J...

HYPOCRITE ALERT: Were you not pimping your book...and yucking it up with...big boob blonde VH1 hostess Carrie Keagan during that Inauguration party a few Saturdays ago? [as Mrs Nat Turner tossed some evil looks!!] Or was that your evil twin Skippy?

I find it offense, yes especially now with the choice the American public made Nov. 4th, that people like Kim Khardashian are put up and paraded in front of our faces for no reason. Do they truly sell products or make ratings?

I agree with the racist air of this "Ray-J"'s fame.

Busted!! (who is Carrie Keagan?)

But I do agree with you about why this is even on TV and that VH1 should be flushed down the media toilet along with your boy Rush LOL

I think VH-1 as a whole is giving us reality TV which I certainly hope is not 'reality' for most of us Americans. They churn out 3 Flavor of Loves, 2 Charm Schools, 2 I love NYs and 3 Brett Michaels shows so quickly (sorry, but he's not looking for love, he's looking for some ass). I could swear I Love Money just finished yet already there's an I Love Money 2. WTF?

It's the dregs of reality TV. I'm guilty of having watched some....admittedly, I'm fascinated by how low we as a people can go. Shame on VH1 (and shame on us for enabling them).

OMG! I never heard of this show until now. This is sad and minstrel. The Onion recently posted a satirical video bit on whether the new level of skankiness on tv is achievable by skanks nationwide. I now feel that, like the Daily Show, it's actually talking about real news.

Ray J and his MOM are one of the producers.

sad.

I read about this on-line and while I wanted to say I was surprised ... I was not surprised.

Whhhyyyyyyyyy?

Does VH-1/Viacom have some special welfare program for talentless colored people born without shame who are tangentially related to slightly more talented and/or famous black people? It's like the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, only it's more like Six Degrees of OJ Simpson.

(Kim K., who did the nasty with Ray J., is the daughter of the man who was one of OJ's buddies and defenders, you know? Until the Kardashians all decided he probably did kill Nicole. So really, for Ray J., that was two degrees to OJ. It might take me a little longer to find Flavor Flav's and New York's connections, but I'm sure they're there.)

Ugh! Ray-J is just digusting. Get a life boy!

Rikyrah: It doesn't have to be constant drumbeat from the White House. Seriously ONE speech by Obama--let us say at one of these overblown NAACP or NUL conventions this summer--can do it. Hell JFK set us on a course to the moon in one speech; Teddy Roosevelt, who invented the term bully pulpit, spoke and lent his opinion in newspaper columns only a few times on matters like this.
Yeah you can lead by example. The most benign illustration is how JFK singlehandedly destroyed this whole decades-long notion of men wearing hats. John Quincy Adams and then Andrew Jackson said look, we're not gonna wear knee breeched any more. We're gonna wear pants, damn it. They didn't command it but let it be known this is how dides should dress. :Look what happened.

It can be done.

Hey man!!
Thanks for tipping me off on that show!!
I will be sure to encourage Barack to watch! Ever since Bill Clinton ruined the presidential hook up (that also involves the "lick up") Barack is going to need some perks of the Executive office. Maybe that will include unedited uncut scenes of Ray J in the bedroom with those chicks! Have you seen the Kardashian video?! Wowee!
If any of those honeys is as PHAT (Plenty of Hips A$$ and TaTas) as Kardashian I am going encourage Barack to watch. Who knows.. Michelle could learn a thing or two, or three, or on all fours.
This is the land of free speech and free "peach". Raunch has it's place in the media see "Larry Flynt".
The show is not a statement only on black folks it is also a comment on all folks (you see those PHAT white girls Ray J is going to get to P_Lay with? LOL!

In case you missed the opening credits, his mother is one of the producers. Their mother said years ago she basically allowed Brandy and R.Jay to do as they pleased because they bought in the families income, when I read this I almost fell out of my chair. This is sad and nothing but a bad case of avarice at any cost.

Man!!! I wish you would have posted that about them girls on Ray J's Show!
"I'm in love with a stripper!" I am tuning in!
YOu didnt list the show times? You have failed to keep us informed!
What time does the show come on? I am going to make sure my 7th grade nephew checks it out to ensure his masculinity and our family lineage!

I'm not a big fan of the bully pulpit. It's just as likely that more people will gravitate towards programs like RayJ's if the Obamas or Cosby bring attention to them. Did Prince suffer when Tipper Gore spoke out against Darling Nikki? So why would the outcome be any different now? Besides, Obama can't criticize VH-One or BET while Jay-Z is all over youtube, straight-up ignorant, rapping about his black president.

The best solution is to ignore Ray-J and his ilk. When we give talentless celebrities publicity, we are feeding the beast. We must kill this soul sucking creature by starving it to death. Turn off the TV and let your cable subscription go.

Um...I want to hear more about Carrie Keagan. Sorry for lowering the discourse.

Then I want you to blog on "Sober House."

SoCal 82Tiger Says:

Professor: So I looked at your posted rants both B.O. & A.O. and what do I see??? NADA...

My skepticism for the moment remains unshaken. Time may provide me an opportunity to change my mind BUT for the moment…

Red or Blue, Rich or Poor, FOX or NPR, Educated or Idiot, Right OR Left Wingnut...
IT NO LONGER MATTERS!

-Famous is the same as infamous
-Good AND bad publicity BOTH guarantee celebrity
-Pop-Culture has surpassed culture
-Bad and good art both share an equal pedestal as “ART”
-Emotion has overruled intellect
-The right not to be offended is more valued then the responsibility to be honest
-The Cult of Personality has replaced the Content of Character

We have allowed this to happen because all of US have let it happen…

Wasn't it Jefferson who mused that a little revolution was good thing every now and then?
When EVERY part of our society has failed us - The best and the brightest of business, government, media and the arts have lead us to places we don't want to be, what is the answer? Maybe now is the time to throw all the bums out and start again?

And before you or anyone else tries the laying the US versus THEM rant upon me...
All the US and THENs are coming from the same place... The Ivy League, the Seven Sisters, and every other great bastion of “higher learning” provides us our next generation of great leaders for business, government, media, and the arts. I know this is cynical Chris but the US is now THEM.

BUT, forever the optimist I still hope one day in the next 4 to 8 years to post to your rants and say you were right and WE are/have changed for the better…

It may sound crazy but, I, too wish that Pres. Obama could make a statement about these black folk who profit off of the worst stereotypes about us. A few weeks ago, I wrote on my blog that I wish gangsta rap could go the way of Guantanamo. Check it out:http://kellsthinktank.wordpress.com/

BlackSnob what the F$$K does this have to do with O.J.?!! It's bad enough we have stupid, pissy, whiny white folks STILL mad about the verdict using any and e-v-e-r-y opportunity to bring up his name relevance be damned but now chuckleheads like you are swarming the bandwagon of stupidity WTF?!! Furthermore it is NO MORE Obama's responsibility to bring 'quality tv' to the masses any more than it was Clinton's or Carter's. Oh that's RIGHT we give white male politicians all the praise and lauds with NONE of the criticisms or consequnces sheeeesh!!
